Hello y’all! I’m Andrea, a color-loving Texan, living in a historic 1926 cottage, and making the most out of every day with my bestie of 31 years. We are empty nesters now, and transforming our home to suit our new lifestyle. I love decorating, cooking, gardening, and crafting. Mostly I love sharing ideas! Welcome, I hope you will stay awhile!
Opulent Cottage is about making your home lovely -- and livable -- without breaking the bank. I absolutely love to make things, and I believe that a little DIY creativity resides in everyone! My hope is to show you how easy, and affordable, it can be to create a home you love, and one that you can truly live in.
Just for fun, here are a few random things about me:
*There is almost nothing that I haven’t sewn or made, except maybe shoes. My sewing career started with alterations in a cute dress shop when I was 15, and continued to custom clothing, costumes, weddings, home interiors, handbags and totes. I also crochet and have made and sold jewelry and gifts.
*Being married is my favorite thing about my life! My husband and I met at work and have continued to love doing projects together, whether volunteering in the community, helping our daughter with a project, or fixing up this 92-year-old house. He is my biggest supporter and my favorite person to be with. He’s a great Dad also, and I thank my lucky stars every single day.
* We have one daughter, Abby, who graduated from University of Texas in 2016. She stayed after college and is living her best life in Austin for now. We love visiting Austin, and she loves coming home, so we still see her quite often, which is fine with us!
*Cats or dogs?? Both!!
*I wasn’t born in Texas, but I absolutely love it here and cannot imagine living anywhere else. After 36 years I decided to officially call myself a native Texan. Even though it’s awfully hot in the summers, the other seasons are delightful, and more than make up for the scorching summers. I celebrate a 70-degree day in January with as much enthusiasm as a wonderful snowfall, and we often have both.
*My "real" job is helping my husband with our local insurance agency. We service commercial and personal clients, and love what we do! Of course our office is decorated with a vintage vibe, too ;)
I would love to hear about you, too! Leave me a message here on the blog, or email andrea(dot)haywood(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
