Hello, and welcome to Week Two of our Living Room One Room Challenge makeover! I guess I should really be calling this more of a refresh. There are no structural changes happening, or even new furniture, honestly. Patching, painting, and refreshing of fabrications is what we really need to accomplish here. After having the past week to think about it, I have a slightly more cohesive plan for moving forward! Here's a little peek of where I'm at with the design:
Let's break it down:
The Big Stuff
Paint
The walls will be painted my new favorite, Behr Ultra Pure White. I love the crispness of a bright white, and the backdrop it gives to all of the colorful elements of a room.
Rug
I showed a sneak peek of the rug we are considering in last week's post and on my Instagram, and you all loved it! We have been really happy with the quality of the Medieval Tracery rug from Rugs USA in our bedroom, so I feel great about buying from them again this time.
Blinds
I'm not sure if the bamboo shades we have had forever are doing the room any favors. They might be replaced with the same 2" faux wood blinds we used in our bedroom.
Coffee Table
This is the one thing in our living room that I really, really dislike. It's a holdover from my country-cottage days and doesn't fit my vision for this room at all. However, it's sturdy, and indestructible, and we put this thing to work every single night. Every other table I have liked is missing the put-your-feet-up-ability of our farm table. Definitely thinking this choice through before I make any changes!
Armoire
I got a head start on this a while back, and need to finish touching up. You can see a partial photo here.
The Fun/Decor Stuff
Draperies
We bought the Ikea Lenda panels a couple of years ago, and I love them. They could use a little trim to jazz them up, though! And I have never altered the panels to the correct length, so that can be done at the same time. Still debating about what color to add to the mix -- so many to choose from!
Sofa
Our drop cloth canvas slipcover has held up really well. The contrasting sofa cushion fabric is really worn, so I will just make a new cushion cover from the leftover fabric from the sofa.
Lamp Shades
The dark lamp shades we are using in the room now have got to go! I'll be recovering or replacing three of our large lamp shades. The small shades on the sconces will be getting a special treatment!
Pillows & Art
Bright and fun, of course!
Thank you all for coming by to see my design plan! You can find the featured designers for Week Two here and the linkup here! Thank you to Linda for inspiring us to create beauty in our homes!
I cannot wait to see what you do. We recently painted our living room. I still need to buy a few things for it, but that will be over time.

This is exciting!!! You always do such a great job!
FYI...Ross and Lowe's have great lampshades. I know a lady who sells the same initials that you showed on a lamp shade in your "sneak peek". They are self adhesive and I would be delighted to send you however many you need.
Good luck with everything....I will be watching :)
Blessings,
J
