Hello friends, and welcome to the Cozy at Christmas Blog Tour! If this is your first visit to Opulent Cottage, welcome! (You can read about me and our historic home here.)
Our little 1926 cottage gets decked for every season, but never more so than at Christmas! It is truly a labor of love, and makes my heart so happy to see our home sparkle and shine. When you're 90 years old, you need a little something sparkly every now and then, know what I mean? ;) I often think about how families may have celebrated here for the last 90 years, and I feel blessed to have this sweet home to make my own.
Today I'm sharing the mantel decor in our living room. I had intended to share our tree as well, but we had a holiday disaster the other day when our white tree came down from the attic looking like it had been rolling in the mud! Apparently it's not uncommon for white trees to eventually turn a (very un-Christmasy) dark color? Anyway, a new one is on order and I hope to be back in a few days to share it with you all.
We have an explosion of holiday brights this year! These red tinsel trees got dressed up with some cheerful green, pink and blue ornaments, repeating the colors in our new pillows from this fall.
The gorgeous plaid ribbon is from Martha Stewart, found at Home Depot.
A mix of mercury glass and brass candlesticks fill the mantel, along with red striped and solid green candles.
How cute are these peppermint candles, found at our local Ross. These gorgeous turquoise mercury glass candlesticks were a gift from my sister last year.
That's a wrap for today -- the new tree has arrived, and I need to get busy so I can share it soon! Thank you so much for coming by!

I am SO glad you shared ALL this goodness. What a stunning mantle. I absolutely love the colors. So merry and bright.
Now let me say that I went to go bring my white tree down from the attic this year and instead found a brown tree. I had NO idea that this happened with white trees and haven't had any time to see if there is a fix. Bah humbug to brown trees. :)

Hi Andrea, WOW what a gorgeous setting by your fireplace. Love your mantel and the red with pops of blue. The candlesticks reflecting off your beautiful mirror is stunning!!
Really pretty with the two comfy chairs on each side. I love it. Too bad about your white tree. I guess white does that over time, but I imagine your new tree is going to be gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing in our tour. Merry Christmas xo

Your home is so Merry, sparkly, cheery, and bright, Andrea! No one could walk through the door and not be put in a happy mood. The red tinsel trees with the plaid ribbon, the mix of candlesticks, and the garland look stunning on your mantle. That's too bad about your white tree, but I'm sure your new one will be a beauty. Thanks for sharing your welcoming home with us.

Andrea, your mantle is stunning. I love the plaid mixed with the pretty colors. It should be in a magazine! Good luck with your new tree. Can't wait to see it all decked out.

Oh your mantel is so festive! I love all the colors. Adore those peppermint candles. And who knew white trees would turn brown? Not good! Glad you got a replacement. Looking forward to seeing it.
Merry Christmas!

Andrea, Your mantel is gorgeous. Love all your Christmas goodies. I will be back to see your new tree. I'm thinking the brown may have had something to do with how hot it can get in an attic in summer...

Your mantel looks spectacular!! I have those same peppermint candles and I have planned to use them on my mantel., but I couldn't find my holders (my garage is a disaster and they are hiding in there somewhere!). Well maybe next year? That is so sad about your tree. A neighbor was giving away a white tree and I had such visions of the pure white tree next to my white bedding and when I opened up the box the tree was very yellow. :(

Your mantel looks very festive and ready for the Christmas season. That gorgeous ribbon by Martha Stewart is the star on your fireplace swag. I love that it has some bleu in it.
Merry Christmas,
Judith

Oh y gosh, I love it all! You and your colors are amazing! My favorite little thing is the mix of silver and brass candle sticks. What a great idea and if I know you, you found most of them for a song!

Your mantle is too pretty! I love the colors you used so much. My white tree also came out of storage looking weird. It's a bit yellowed, so I'm calling it "champagne gold" this year and looking for a new one. It's not noticeable with the ornaments and tinsel on it. :)
