Our fall mantel is finally up! This seems to be my year of grab whatever you have and go with it. So the first box that came down from the attic is what got used :) And you know, sometimes I do think that less is more. *Yes I realize I just said that* None of you would be surprised to hear that I'm usually a more is more kind of gal, would you?!! This year though, I just need to give myself a break from making life more complicated than it needs to be.
Can you spy my shortcut? I took the urns from the dining room, with their pretty red faux geraniums, and just floofed them up with some twigs and a few fall leaves! A while later I found some berries shoved in a drawer, so in they went, along with some windowpane burlap ribbon from Hobby Lobby. The Syroco peacocks (pheasants?) were in the box, so up they went, along with a couple of candlesticks. Done, and done.
But the real star of this show is the gorgeous floral painting that my paternal grandmother did decades ago! It is a true treasure, one of the few items I have to remember her by. It has become a tradition for me to bring it out every fall and give it a place of honor! I absolutely love it propped here on our mantel.
I have a few more fall decor tricks to show you soon, also! Have a good week everyone!
xo, Andrea

Simple is my motto, too, in recent years, Andrea! We'll see how that plays come Christmas. : ) Love how you dressed up your urns. I think they look perfect on your mantel. The picture is great! What a wonderful way to remember your grandmother and it suits this mantel vignette perfectly.

Oh...it's great and sometimes simple is better. The syrocco pheasants look expensive and I know they are not. Love the little painting. The urns are perfect. You are doing better than I ...I've still got a super huge mess in the living room and dining room. Why didn't I paint last summer. I had a reason. But I cannot remember now what it was.

Hi Andrea,
Your grandmother was certainly a talented woman! Her beautiful painting depicts the details and accents of the autumn season, with warmth in her colours and technique in her textures. Simply stunning.

I like your style of decorating! I am a more is more decorator myself but have been wanting to simplify. Love just taking what is there and making something fabulous like you did on your mantel. That gorgeous painting goes perfect! Visiting from The Scoop!

Your mantel looks sooo pretty. I just moved and as I unpacked boxes, things went to places that I have to redo...and my mantel is one of them. It turned out all summery and here it is, November. Must redo....and like you, I am using much less than normal. After seeing your pretty mantel, now I will have to rework mine today. :)
Love the pretty wreath Nana Diana won from your blog. Gorgeous.

I'm coming over through Nana Diana's blog. You have lovely Autumn décor on your mantel. Your Grandmother's painting is so special, and the colors go perfect with the season. Your mirror caught my eye - it's beautiful.
So nice to meet you, and sometimes I think "less is more" too.
