This weekend, the change up to spring began here at Opulent Cottage. And it was so easy to get spring fever, with sunny days nearing 70! Not to taunt those of you still in the deep of winter. I keep reminding myself that we could have a winter storm at any time, like 3 years ago, when it snowed on the first day of spring.
For the next week or so, the house will be in transition. Which means a big, fat mess! Time for the Valentine's decorations to go away and the boxes of spring decor to come down from the attic. I'm not really ready to be looking at Easter eggs and bunnies just yet, so they will stay packed away for a few more weeks.
I did break down and buy a few spring plants. Home Depot had some really nice flats of marigolds, and for just $12 I filled quite a few pots. I splurged on a few impatiens too (who could resist them for 88 cents!). It's nice to have a little burst of color in our courtyard. Here's a peek --
I'll be doing a post in the future on using items from our home in the garden! You can see how I have used them in the past here in this post.
Daylilies are popping up, roses are budding, and even my elephant ears are sprouting new leaves. But I just checked the weather, and we will be back down into the 30s tomorrow night, with two days of cold rain on the way. Sigh. It's not spring yet!

Ok, you're giving me spring fever!! I was just listening to the birds chirping this morning and felt like, gee, this seems like a spring morning! I want to plant some things so bad; but, you're right, we have the most finicky weather. You never know!

Beautiful flower compositions, Andrea! I love the oranges and blues for in the home as well. We had such a lovely, sunny day today, and all I could do was sit inside and try to get over this aggravating cold that I developed this morning--aggh--so much that I could be doing, but no energy for it today! It did give me a chance to read blogs, however, which was fun :)

You are optimistic that winter is about over...buying outside flowers already. Its been pretty here but suppose to get cold and rainy. I'm not quite ready to get out the Easter stuff but I know it will be here soon.

I love the way you use plates in your planters, that is so cute! I live in Alabama but wouldn't dream of buying flowers until mid April, we will have more am freezes until then, but I can see it was hard to resist those pretty plants!

I'm trying to stay off the temptation to bust into spring myself. Even in North Texas we've had a gloomy gray winter, haven't we?
Your planters are so cheerful and I love your orange hobnail glasses? If they're a recent purchase will you share the source?
Thanks for all the happy...

I know what you mean. The weather here has been so fickle. One day it's warm enough for shorts and the next, we're digging out our gloves again. Your Spring flowers look so pretty planted outside.

Oh lucky you! We've had a few warm afternoons but the mornings have sometimes been below freezing. I can't wait for spring!
I still have to take my Valentine's stuff down and put it away. I just realized that Easter is in March!

Ahhhh it's all pretty!! I was just in the SA store on my lunch hour and picked up two red transferware plates. They are not my pattern, but pattern schmattern.....I couldn't resist! You have just given me the perfect idea, I will "plant" them in with some red impatiens!!
Thank you, and I will think of you when I look at them :^)
Blessings,
J
