I am the lucky owner of a couple of paintings that were done by my late paternal grandmother. You can see the beautiful painting that hangs in our dining room here. But each fall, I look forward to bringing another special painting out of storage just for the season. I anticipate it with the same excitement as bringing out the boots and sweaters! It is hung in our tiny foyer this year, making a pretty seasonal statement for all who enter.
While these colors don't necessarily work in our home year-round, they are delightful for the fall. So much so that I couldn't resist this sweet little pumpkin at the store the other day. Remember when I said I was waiting?! Oops. It will last a little longer since it's inside.
My parents gave us this tureen a few years after we were married. That pretty much makes it vintage, right?!! I filled it with floral foam, then topped that off with some spanish moss. After cutting apart a bunch of faux fall leaves into single stems, I stuck them into the foam to secure them. Some found grape leaf stems made their way in next, along with a strand of acorns and some berries. Super easy.
The mix of different leaves and colors helped this look a little more realistic. Sometimes those fall leaf bunches look so glaringly bright, and this calmed them down a little.
These urns needed a little something too. I cut a strip of burlap and wrapped it around the top, securing it with some wrapped jute. Some Spanish moss adds a little more texture.
I'm hoping that this is the last look you will get of this sad little chest in its sorry state. It's way overdue for a makeover, which is coming soon. I'll always treasure this piece, because it was in my bedroom growing up, and it is the perfect size for this space. But a major overhaul is in the works! You won't recognize it when I'm done :)
I'll be back with another project for this room, too. Thanks for coming by! I'm joining

What a pretty entry! The painting is perfect for this time of the year. And how much more special it is that someone in your family painted it. Things like that make such precious memories as we grow older.

I love this painting--you had a very talented grandmother! And I an so drawn to what you did to decorate your vases--I may very well adapt this to some of mine--I just love it!
