Along with about 847 million other folks, one of my favorite things is FALL! We are getting a tiny taste of it this weekend here in Dallas, with temps dropping into the mid to low 60s at night, and below 90 (for the first time in ages) during the day.
No sleeping in this weekend! It's too nice out to be slumbering! We hit the road early to feed the sweet hens up at our elementary school's community garden.
They had some new chicks this morning :)
Here in Texas, it can be a little tough to get into the fall groove. Mums and pumpkins are sometimes available this early, but they don't really thrive on these balmy days. If it gets too close too 100 outside, they're all goners. I did splurge on a couple of small mums for inside, found at our local dollar store. Yes, they were only $1 :)
This weekend we'll be dragging the fall boxes down from the attic, a much nicer task when it's not 140 degrees up there. I always anticipate bringing down my favorite brown transferware and ceramic gourds and pumpkins. The exitement of putting together new displays throughout the house really adds to my giddiness about fall. But until I can get it all unpacked, here are a few photos from falls past at Opulent Cottage.
This fall tablescape was my very favorite, from 2010. Paisley, polka dots, with all the reds, golds and browns of fall. I adored those multi-hued mums, and sure hope I can find some more this year.
These pinky-purple mums were gorgeous, too.
Fall apples are the best, aren't they? We celebrated the season with this apple tablescape.
And last year, I had new shelves in the kitchen to decorate
Some fall food is in order, too! Tonight I'll be making the first roast of the season, and I'll share the recipe with you all tomorrow. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
I'm joining Claudia for A Favorite Thing Saturday at Mockingbird Hill Cottage and Elaine for Sunny Simple Sundays at Sunny Simple Life
Love the fall changes! Same here in Georgia...hard to think fall when it's still so hot! Happy weekend!...hugs...Debbie

Your fall tablescapes and vignettes are beautiful. Glad to hear the weather is cooling down a bit and that you'll be able to drag those boxes down from the attic!
Those little chicks are adorable!
Thanks so much for joining in on the party!

Oh wow! How interesting that your Elementary school has a chicken coop! I think that is fantastic. We have a 90 gallon salt water aquarium at my school. They would love to have chicks, probably even more! Love all your fall vignettes. Count me in the 'Love Fall' group!

Pretty pretty! We went to the nursery today since it is cooler. We are having to relearn all this Texas gardening stuff, you know. They had so many pretty mums there but I'm not doing it just yet.

I love that apple table scape. Anything with apples is a favorite of mine too. I do love fall apples and cider and pumpkin donuts...I could go on and on.

Now, this gets me in the mood for fall! You had such wonderful fall decor! I would love to be able to get mums now; but, I'm with you. With our crazy weather, they would be doomed before October. This was a really pretty post! Thanks for sharing!

Well I'm numbered among the 847 million that love Fall (: I especially like the photo of your shelves ~ very homey yet practical. I spy a cute little dish with a bird on it.

I have got my eyes out for some cheap Mums, they do okay here as it is a more moderate climate. I am pretty certain I can't find any for $1 though, great deal you got. I need to dig out our fall decorations as our Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up soon on October 8th
