I made a fantastic thrifting find recently:
At first I thought it had to be a reproduction. But when I went back and read Nancy's wonderful, educational post about ammunition baskets, I saw some identifying features that led me to believe that this is the real thing. I realized how much I lucked out when I saw the prices that are normally charged for these. I only paid $3!
I filled the basket with some curly willow to bring height to this corner of the room. It still needed something, so I added some faux hydrangeas that I found on sale at JoAnn Fabrics.
Oddly, the flowers look like a soft gold in these photos, when they actually are a light, mossy green. I have this thing about buying faux flowers, that they have to be a color that would be found in nature. I've been so envious of everyone's real hydrangeas this summer! These look like they could have been plucked from a garden (not mine, sadly) and dried right here in the basket.
It was nice to treat myself to a tiny bit of fall color, because it's a little crazy here right now. Furniture is moving in and out of the house, and from room to room, pillow covers are being washed and changed, and slipcovers are being finished. That's right! Finally! It's chaos! Why can't I ever seem to do just one project at a time?!!

Holy Guacamole!!!! Three dollars? Is that all?? You are so lucky and I am so jealous. That is a fabulous find and I would love to have one of those. However, I've only seen them for a lot of money or they have that icky green metal thing in it that holds the ammo and makes it not as attractive. I love yours!

These baskets are awesome! I hope I find one when I go to a market this coming Saturday. When I was young, I wanted to become a home decorator, but I realized I didn't have the talent for it. But I never let go of shopping for the best items when I started earning my own money. Anyway, great finds! I am happy for you.
