Everywhere I go, everyone is talking about the weather. We're having a big cool down this weekend -- to 97! Seriously, they said that on the weather report, a cool down. Sorry for bragging.
When it's this hot, there are only a couple of things to do. Make tea, do projects, and SHOP! I just adore those lovely people who keep their stores at a frosty 70 degrees.
We made a dent this weekend in Abby's college dorm needs. She is working at Pier One this summer, and between the July 4th sale and her employee discount, she got some amazing prices on these pretty pillows. The beaded and embroidered pillow is on sale for $10 right now! All of this coordinates with some pillows and bedding that she already has, so all that's left to buy are twin extra-long sheets. Sorry for the dark photos, there's just no good place in this house to take pics this time of day, and I'm not going outside!
And of course, there is enough burnt orange in the print for Bevo to fit right in :) She really does have a Bevo, it's a pillow pet.
Then we headed to Ross, where we totally scored. Do you ever get the feeling that you need to go hit the discount stores right now? Well, Abby jumped up from the sofa and said Mom let's go NOW and we were out the door in 2 minutes. She found some cute, colorful flatware to go with her Pier One melamine plates, dish towels and dish cloths, a sparkly purple rug, and these pretty sequined turquoise sheers.
It all coordinates with these adorable towels that we found at Ross a few weeks back. I could not believe how reasonably priced they were, for something so cute. And they coordinate with some monogrammed towels that she received as graduation gifts.
We also got this awesome hamper, which doubles as extra seating, and it was only $40. I'll recover the top of it with some fabric that matches her other accessories. I shudder to think of what all might get crammed in there. Or how long it might take me to wash it all when she drags it home :)
Quality control came by to inspect, and gave us her approval.
Speaking of tea, we have been making this recipe from Dr. Oz and can't get enough of it. I make it with two green tea bags, 3 slices of orange, some fresh mint and one packet of stevia in a quart jar. It's so refreshing on these miserably hot days.
Stay cool, everyone!
I'm joining Elaine for Sunny Simple Sunday and Nita for Mod Mix Monday.
Oh, that's right. Your girl will be going off to college now! An empty nest for you. Such pretty things she/you found for her dorm. So exciting for her! (I don't even have a hamper... Still looking for a dresser too...)

I too have a son headed to UT, but I am not having any fun decorating his dorm. He doesn't want anything. When my daughter headed to college we spent the entire summer getting things together for her room. I think I am going to decorate some boxes for him to store some things in, but that and some pictures are probably all I will get to do.

You brought back memories of my kids going off to college. My daughter said it was like an extra Christmas. She purchased her bedding in London on a post high school trip. Dad took her out to buy a computer and a stereo (pre iPods) and I took her to Target for the essentials. I think the essentials bill helped open her eyes to how expensive it is to live.
Hope your weather cools down a bit or summer could get expensive with shopping to stay cool!

How exciting. A new chapter for you both. I am sure you are having fun shopping for the dorm room.
