Sunshine! Temps in the 40s! We're almost back to normal here in Dallas. Last week was one looong week, which I'm sure you all have heard about on the national news. And you know what? Everything they're saying is totally correct -- Dallas is so NOT prepared to deal with winter weather. I couldn't feel more awful than I do for all of the folks who came to visit our city for the Super Bowl, and got stuck sitting in hotel rooms while streets were frozen over for days on end.
Call it cabin fever, but after being stuck at home for 5 days in "snowmaggedon," I was ready to get out of the house. And where did I go first? Why Lowe's, of course!
I had decided last Wednesday to paint. Maurie braved the ice rink (our back yard) to go to our detached garage and retreive paint supplies and a gallon of oops paint that I had been hoarding out there. Frozen solid! Thawed out kind of lumpy, and I'm not sure it's ever going to be smooth again. My paint project was delayed a few more days.
By the way, these Valentine XOs that I am showing started out as this
Add a little Rub-n-Buff, and don't they look like vintage metal? I really thought I would have to antique them after the Rub-n-Buff, but the paper mache showed through just enough to make them look antiqued. Sort of a vintage industrial kind of look. Different for me. Just wrap a bit of plastic wrap around your finger, squirt on some Rub-n-Buff, and start to swirl it around.
Ignore our beat-up mantel, if you can! That's on the list too, believe me.
So back to the paint project. See the reflection, through the arch, in our living room mirror? That's right, it's not red anymore! Back to Lowe's go we, and next week I'll have a reveal for you.
I'm joining Kim today for Wow Us Wednesday
Love it! Which color Rub n Buff did you use?

I love what you did with those letters. You are smart to cover your finger with that stuff. I just do it straight on my finger and then lots of washing.

Glay you're thawing out in Dallas :) I just came home today with a large 'E' like that for my daughters room. I love the vintage metal look, but my 10 year old is probably going to want something really colorful. Tks for sharing.

Thanks for using AMACO Rub 'n Buff! This is a great project - so easy.
I've also found that you can use Painter's Wipes found at Lowes to remove Rub 'n Buff from your hands. Comes off quick and easy.

Your mantle looks pretty- very sweet! I've never used Rub n' Buff before... The exterior of your home reminds me of mine- and it's covered in about the same amount of snow right now too!

Cool project! Are you in the Mstreets area? My dad lives there so it looks familiar.
