It’s a beautiful, sunny, sort-of warm day here in Dallas! OK, not really warm but not freezing either. And for once, my daughter doesn’t have a single thing to do after school – not choir, not cheerleading, no meetings – nothing! I thought we might celebrate with a little after-school tea and treat ourselves to a favorite sweet goodie. Since it's Tablescape Thursday, and sunny, I had the perfect excuse to set a pretty table for us to enjoy our snack.
All week I have wanted to share these gorgeous pink roses with you, my Valentine flowers. And I’ve been inspired by the cover of this book for so long. It’s a wonderful tablescaping book, given to me years ago by my friend Katy. This beautiful photograph was the inspiration for our table today.
The table started with this pretty matelasse throw, used as a tablecloth. The rich texture is so elegant! My classic Blue Willow plates, which we normally use everyday, were topped with crystal-ey glass cereal bowls. These plates can be found everywhere – I think I bought most of mine at Kroger when they had a special! The glass bowls are from Dollar Tree. They’re practical, and pretty.
Sweet rose napkins were found at an estate sale a few years back.
Our thrift-store silverplate adds a lovely sparkle to our table. I wish I knew what pattern this is, but I’ve searched and searched and it seems impossible to identify.
We’ll have tea, and some freshly made juice, a favorite treat of Abby’s for after-school. These pretty blue glasses are another DT treasure. They’re just like the green ones from Thanksgiving. I hope they eventually come in every color!
Today I was wishing that I had ordered some of the lacy cupcake wrappers I keep seeing around blogland. I had to make do by cutting a lace doily apart, pleating and taping it to make it fit a little better. They still look nice, don’t you think? (Later in the day I found some really cute cupcake wrappers on Etsy.) These muffins are lemon-poppyseed, just scrumptious.
My sister gave me this teapot for Christmas the same year that Kroger carried Blue Willow. I’ve set it in a silverplated dish to protect the matelasse. These are the Pier 1 birdie salt and peppers shakers, so adorable.
I can’t get over these roses. They’re still perfect, days later. I love the simplicity of flowers in this elegant glass pitcher.
Here are a few more photos from Tabletops, by Barbara Milo Orbach (found here), for you to enjoy!
Happy sunny day! You'll find Tablescape Thursday here.
xo, Andrea
So beautiful and so classic. The blue and white is perfect with the matalasse table cloth. Funny, I took that very same book out of the library a few weeks ago.

I just love to visit you! I'm always energized and smiling when I leave. You did a great job putting together this beautiful tablescape. The blue willow teapot is gorgeous. Will have to look for one of those. Soon, hopefully, we shall have our own roses and blooms outside! I too have that book. A wonderful resource.

Wow, that is amazing! So beautiful... :)
I was searching for info on tablescapes, since I've been playing around with it and just wrote a post about it (here: http://morinhouse.blogspot.com/2010/02/love-your-house-guest-post.html ), but I was thinking of tablescaping more in terms of any flat surface... ;)
Your lovely table is getting me inspired, though!

Beautiful table...from the Blue Willow to the lovely napkins to the gorgeous silverware. What is on the back of the silver, any makers name? I have a book on silverplate and would be glad to check it for you, if you could tell me the maker.

I'm back Andrea, yes, please use "dishspotting" lol, I stole it from the lovely Michael Lee from Designs by Gollum. Texas is my second fave state in the USA as we used to have twice yearly meeting there before we moved to CA and I had such a great time there, so much art and shopping and the people are so friendly. I am really looking forward to seeing more of your posts. Kathy.

What a perfectly LOVELY setting! You did an amazing job of bringing out the color of the estate sale napkins (TDF!) with your fruit choices & I like your fancy cupcake holder substitutes...very creative!
I have a very similar tea set but none of the bigger plates or stemware. You've inspired me to try creating a similar scene but first I have to go SHOPPING!!! :)
I also just requested several of Barbara's books from my library. She has some really pretty ideas!
