It's Foodie Friday, and almost Thanksgiving, so let's cook! If you’re looking for a flavor adventure, try spicing up your dressing with the addition of tamales. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a zesty deep-fried turkey!
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 recipe Anna’s Cornbread, found on Tasty Kitchen
2 pork tamales, chopped into ½ inch pieces
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs of your choice
¼ cup Heavy Cream
½ cup Chicken or Turkey Broth
Anna’s Cornbread (member ateupamateur on Tasty Kitchen) is, to me, the perfect cornbread for dressing – dense, crusty, and not at all sweet. If you’re using a different cornbread, toast it in the oven for a few minutes before mixing everything together, to give it a little crunch.
Sauté chopped onion in butter and olive oil until slightly carmelized, about 10 – 12 minutes. Mix together with cornbread, tamales and herbs in a large bowl, adding salt and pepper to taste. Blend cream with broth, and sprinkle over cornbread mixture. Combine gently.
Butter a baking dish. Add cornbread mixture. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes, until the top gets a little crusty. This would also be great stuffed into your baked turkey!
We’ll serve this with the jalapeno cranberry salsa that I make every year! The combination is a flavorful, spicy twist on the traditional Thanksgiving meal.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I love this week of cooking, friendship and family. If you have a good recipe, please share it! And visit Foodie Friday for more wonderful recipes for our holiday.
Love to all,
Andrea

This sounds very interesting. I love new twists to dressings. This would also be great with pork.

I love tamales is time of year, but would have never thought of putting them in cornbread, why not though. I make red chili and put it on my stuffing and mashed potatoes, like gravy. So the addition of tamales sounds GREAT!!!
THANKS!!! for the recipe and idea.

This sounds incredible. Who would have thought! Thanks for posting. Can't wait to try it. Have a dozen pork tamales in the freezer now. Got to get the cornbread cooking. Nothing like dressing. You're right--dressing is a comfort food.

I'm impressed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that's both equally educative and amusing, and without a doubt, you've hit the nail on the head. The issue is an issue that too few men and women are speaking intelligently about. I'm very happy that I stumbled across this in my hunt for something regarding this.|
