Valentine’s Day is almost here! It’s one of my favorite holidays, and it’s my anniversary! And as my Valentine gift to you, here’s my heart crochet pattern.
These are simple enough for beginning crocheters, like me. I have been tweaking this for awhile now, trying to come up with a shape and size that was good for my tea towel project. It’s about 3½ inches in size, good for other different types of craft projects, also. I used Peaches & Cream worsted weight cotton, color Peppermint and a size H/8 crochet hook.
To start: Ch 2, 1 sc in second chain, ch 1, turn
2 sc (2 stitches total), ch 1, turn
2 sc in each chain (4 stitches total), ch 1, turn
2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next two stitches, 2 sc in last (6 total), ch 1, turn
1 sc in each (6 total), ch 1, turn
2 sc in first stitch, then 1 sc in next 4 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch (8 total), ch 1, turn
1 sc in each (8 total), ch 1, turn
2 sc in first stitch, then 1 sc in next 6 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch (10 total), ch 1, turn
1 sc in each (10 total), ch 1, turn
Now we change it up a bit, and start the top of the heart:
1 sc in first five stitches, ch 1, turn. This is the beginning of the right side.
Start to decrease: combine first two sc into one, then 1 sc, dec next 2 sc, ch 1, turn
1 sc, dec next 2 sc, ch 1, turn
Dec the two sc, tie off
Make a slip knot, insert into stitch in the middle where you left off
5 sc, ch 1, turn. The begins the left side of the heart.
Start to decrease: combine first two sc into one, then 1 sc, dec next 2 sc, ch 1, turn
Dec first 2 sc, 1 sc, ch 1, turn
Dec the two sc, don’t tie off this time. Trim other tails to 1 inch
Now you will sc around the whole heart, fitting your stitches into the spaces between each row. This will give a pretty finish around the edge, instead of the raggedy one you have now. As you go around, stitch in the tails from before. At the bottom of the heart, stitch 3 sc into one stitch to go around the corner. When you reach the inside center of the heart, do a decrease to avoid the stitching becoming too bulky. When you reach the starting point, tie off, and weave in the last tail. You’re done!
Rather than blocking, I simply steamed my hearts for a few seconds to set the stitches and even out the shape.
Happy hooking! Let me know what you make with these!
xoxo, Andrea

Thank you so much for your generous 'share from the Heart'. I can't wait to show my husband and tell him to run me up a few (he's the most fantastic knitter and crocheter in the family!) Blessings of this Day and Age!

I will definitely share your pattern with my mom. Sewing, knitting, and crochet are not my strong suits. These little hearts are all warm and sweet. Happy Valentine's Day!

Thanks for the pattern. Sometimes just a little something is what you need to finish off a project.
