In the last few days we have had plumbers, the city, and the heater repair folks all out for a visit. And Maurie had to replace a breaker in our electrical box. The law of threes? I don't know but I sure hope we are done for a while. I needed to take a break from the fun we were having with our plumbing, so I went out front to clean up the porch a little.
Maybe it's spring fever, but I decided to go to the store to grab a few winter plants. I was baffled by the selection at Home Depot. They were pretty much cleaned out of winter varieties such as pansies and snapdragons, and had none of the pretty ornamental cabbages that I'm seeing all around the neighborhood. What they did have was a huge selection of petunias, geraniums, and crotons. In January? I know this is Texas, but really?
Now it did happen to be 78 degrees out (with 79% humidity!) but we all know that if I had bought those, Dallas would have a recored snowfall next week. It seemed a little more logical to wait before investing in spring plants. I trimmed the pittosporum shrubs in front and the boxwoods in back, and brightened up the potting bench with trimmings and a rosemary plant from out back.
And guess what? It's going down to 33 tomorrow night. After record heat and severe thunderstorms today. It's North Texas, y'all!

Just so lovely. Your January on the porch is like our May on the porch. It is fun to see some green- xo Diana

I went to Home Depot last weekend, too, and was stunned to see geraniums! I concluded they were to be Valentine's Day gifts? Who knows? I did break down and buy one primrose, because they were so pretty. As you say, here in Texas, you never know WHAT the next day's weather will be like.

Your porch looks great Andrea! I can't wait for spring and working in the gardens!

I love the way you've fixed up your potting bench and the surrounding area, Andrea! The little basket with the greenery and birds is very cute. Although we had 60 degree weather today, it will be back to the 20's by Thursday {with some snow in the forecast}. I expect I won't see much in plantings or flowers except at the supermarket!

I need to do something with my porch. It gets ignored between Christmas and spring. Those white birds look great with the pinecones. We're expecting that weather to head our way too. From one extreme to another!

Andrea, your porch looks so pretty. I haven't checked out our Home Depot plant selection yet, but I'm sure we might have cyclamen, but not petunias yet..Love using the clippings..Happy Wednesday..Judy

Our weather may be more predictable in Southern California- but we still live by the law of threes. It was only supposed to be 2- but the plumber filled the slab in the kitchen just a wee-bit high):-
